During His earthly ministry,
Jesus taught His disciples the
commandments that He received
from His Father. He then told
them to keep these commands
and to teach them to others.
For every commandment,
there is a specific character
quality that relates to it; thus,
we have the words of Christ
and the character of Christ.
Paul stated that he based
sound doctrine on two things:
first, Christ’s own words (com-
mandments) and secondly, that
which leads to Christlike living
(character).
(See I Timothy 6:3.)

thus following Paul’s command,
“Let the word of Christ dwell
in you richly in all wisdom;
teaching and admonishing one
another . . .”
(Colossians 3:16)
