Hi there,
I'll respond to what you wrote soon...in fact, I still
have tons to tell you, but I just HAVE to know your
opinion on this now!! :)
I have a girlfriend who is a Christian, but feels
overwhelmed and dismayed with the apparent moral
decline of society to the point that she is hesitant
to even marry and have children knowing the trend
toward government control over parents, the evil
influences, pedophilia, etc etc.... She thinks society
is right on the brink of just completely declining
into a cesspool of perversion and evil...where parents
will loose all control over their children, will be
punished for psychologically damaging their children
by indoctrinating them with Christianity, where
churches will be forced to allow homosexuals to
preach, etc etc etc. She doesn't have a joyful
countenance and alludes to thinking that those who are
chipper have their heads up their..... in denial. She
even uses Paul as an example of someone who was so
disgusted with society that he would rather be dead. I
see Paul as an inspiration to be full of joy and
courage. Even IF preterism is wrong and we are truly
living in the "end times" and things are truly getting
worse and worse, I would NEVERTHELESS assert that, as
Christians, we should be full of joy...waking up to
God's beautiful creation with a zest for life and
overflowing wtih thanksgiving. I think, as Christians,
we should feel courageous, not overwhelmed. It's a
GIVEN to me that all these awful things are occurring.
Of COURSE they're occurring...without Christ, the
world is EVIL and evil is really really gross and
perverted and disgusting. I agree with her about the
way society is headed...I mean, we've already become
desensitized to homosexuality and pedophilia is just
around the corner and will soon be an accepted norm,
just like premarital sex. And government control...oh,
that's terrible!! ETC ETC....yes, it's bad out there,
but it just inspires me to spread the gospel and it
makes me thankful that I'm a Christian. I think we are
put on this earth in the midst of all this depravity
to shine...to be full of life and joy (salt and
light). And not just walk around oblivious to it all,
but to get in there and HELP the widows and orphans
and hurting and hungry and oppressed. Of COURSE it
breaks my heart to see the pain and suffering that is
caused by evil...of COURSE...especially working with
those precious children. But I know the answer to it
all, so it doesn't scare me. And I can know what I
know and see what I see and still feel overwhelmed
with peace and joy. I don't think God established the
institution of marriage and told us to be fruitful and
multiply and referred to children as a blessing and
then added a disclaimer "UNLESS things get really
bad". Things have always been bad!! He knew that all
along! What he said then is still relevant. She's
scared to death to have a family (and that's just one
symptom of her bleak outlook of life). I think she's
missing the point of Christianity. I've tried to
explain things to her, but I don't seem to persuade.
What do you think? Am I on the right track? What can I
say to her? Can you help me explain to her what I'm
trying to say?? Do you agree with me?
