Rebirth of the Nations

For New Year's Eve, I saw an amazing film in the Pentecostal church I am currently attending. It's called "Transformations II: The Glory Spreads", from Sentinel Ministries Canada ( http://sentinelministries.org/ ). This video outlines the power of deep, heartfelt, day-and-night prayer by God's people, and what true repentance and intercessory prayer can do.

In three places – the outer islands of Scotland in the 1950's, the modern-day Canadian Arctic and modern-day Uganda – the people of God made heartfelt prayer to God, individually and collectively. Scotland's enemy was formalistic religion; the Arctic was drowning in hopelessness, drunkenness, sexual abuse, and despair; and Uganda had Idi Amin, witchcraft, pagan gods, and corruption.

Now, this is a Pentecostal/Charismatic production, so they had no problems with God miraclously reducing the AIDS rate in Uganda, with the sound of the Spirit like "rushing waters" filling a church (it was taped), and with various supernatural actions and phenomena. What should be of special interest to theonomists (Reformers, Baptist, and otherwise) is that what happened as the revival occurred. Not only was individual souls saved from death, and not even just communities were brought to life. But this revival extended to government as well: the secularized Mounties supported the Inuit as they destroyed their porn, rock music, and boose: and many officals of their government are Christians (yes, they pray Christian prayers in their public schools, and no one stops them).

And in Uganda, the senior government officals (and opposition!) insist on the supremacy of Christ the Lord. They are not a theonomic nation, but they are working to be governed by Christian principles and openly claim their nation for Jesus Christ, and have no interest in giving 'a fair hearing' to those who hate God.

Note that all of this was paid for with a price: a great Northern missionary died by an accidental shotgun blast, and many Christians died in the various anti-Christian persecutions by the old regime. Could I point out that American Christians have not yet 'resisted unto bloodshed'? We hardly hear semons against our enslavement by our enemies, or the mass murder and theft that goes on relentlessly. If we do not even cry out, day and night, why should God take us seriously? Will not God stay His hand, until we have invited Him to crush Satan, and establish His Son as the master of our nation?

[ And of course, if there isn't even any real public defiance, why should the enemy risk the bad publicity to kill us? Better to destroy us slowly, like a boa constrictor slowly crushing the life out of its prey. When will we cry out for God to chop off the head of the snake – regardless of the cost?

Or are we still so stupid as to really believe "if we don't speak up, they will leave us alone"? Look, people, the enemy has expanded their regulation, their taxes, their laws, and their hatred of us and our God until we are driven into the corner we are in now, where we must literally fight or die. Will we NOW turn to God in ferverent, unceasing prayer? Or will we continue to be craven cowards, crawling on our bellies before those who hate us? ]

But not just this: where are the theonomic prayer warriors, those chain of men who pray for righteousness for their nation, their state, and their world? This is surely something that God's people can do: it costs us in time and humility, things that the poorest Christian can offer up to God. IIf we really desire the defeat of Satan, we need to understand that merely having a new strategy will not work: we need the Hand of God to heal His people, and the Sword of God to cut down the foe.

If we truly want a theonomic society, to shatter the spiritual and intellectual chains that our enemies have woven around us, we MUST CONTINUALLY pray for God to break their lying cant – in church sermons and in private meetings, with a driven need for the Christian liberty that can come only from the Will of God! We must humble ourselves before God, and have His Spirit govern our actions.

We need solid Reformed thinking for a free Christian people to govern effectively: but it need not have the title "Reformed". What IS needed is a desire to govern as the Bible says, and to actually obey the commandments of God. It need not be revolutionary, but must progress in obedience and reverence, day after day.

But believing is not enough: receiving is needed, as well. In Matthew 21:22 Christ says "And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." It is true that if we believe in Christ for gifts according to His will, He will provide. (And don't forget: it's those who OBEY His word, AND pray, who God is most pleased to respond to.)

But there is also another way to see this verse. It is necessary, but NOT sufficent, for us to simply believe with our head what God has said. We MUST receive it in our hearts, as well. (Yes, I am talking especially to you, Reformers!) It is not enough to know that A) our nation must repent and kneel to God in submission and B) God has the power to do this. We must actually ask God to cause His Holy Spirit to move in the hearts of our coutnrymen, to bring the New Life to pass.

We must also ask God to cut down His enemies: we cannot lawfully do so in the flesh (except in physical self-defense), but we CAN lawfully ask God to pour disgrace, failure, and death on those who hate Him - just as North and his pastor prayed for the death of a local, unrepentant abortonist [granted: that loathsome reptile crashed into a tree while skiing], and the Ugandans cried out against a witchdoctor who stood against them [granted: the swine said that he would kill the Chrstians by witchcraft, but he died instead. Glory to God in the highest! ].

Now, back to Matthew 21:22. I am perfectly aware that Reformers did the hard, back-breaking intellectual work to rediscover the plan God has for all human societies: and surely, God will bless the Reformers for this work, to expand His glory. But remember: it is not those who SAY the commands of God, but those who DO the commands who will be blessed.

In the days of the Old West, it was the Baptists who gave up a comfortable life and a reliable society in the East, to preach to the migrants heading West: while the Reformer pastors, loaded with school debts, stayed East where the nice salaries were to be found. Why were no Reformed pastors found to go West? Because the Reformed churches insisted that all minsters must have this piece of paper, to prove that they were educated. As North would say, it was the "Christianity Plus" trap: in this case, Christianity Plus Seminary. God saw, and blessed the Baptists with the power to shape America's future, and NOT the Reformers.

Are we going to see the same thing happen AGAIN? I am in a Pentecostal church (even though I am a hard-core Calvinist), and I am pleased that God has put me with a people who want to see God RULE. Same thing for an increasing number of Charismatic churches. When will the Reformed churches cry out for revival? When will they begin 24-hour prayer meetings, begging God, day and night, to establish His rule in our nation? God blesses those who DO His word: don't be surprised if a theonomic society is brought in by Godly, Spirit-filled, PENTECOSTAL people!

[] PS: when I said "those chain of men who will pray", it was not a misprint. I believe that God is pleased to see women eagerly pray for Him, but His wrath is being kindled at Christian men, who refuse to humble themselves before God. At one time, He would overlook this, but to me, it is looking less like mere ignorance, and more like sheer INSOLENCE against God.

God expectd MEN to pray to God, more than He even expects women to. MEN are expected to lead their families and nations before God in prayer. MEN are commadned to be the priests of their family, and only MEN may legitimately lead a public congregation in Holy Worship.

But what we have now is the point-blank refusal of MEN to humble themselves before God. God has punished MEN for their stupidity, cutting down their standing in society, allowing female preachers, and inflicting feminism on them in order to drive Christian MEN into repentence. But, by and large, they have refused to kneel before God.

God hates the stiff-necked attitude that Christian MEN have before God. Consider: even homeschooling, the areana of the greatest victories of God's people (so far: I expect much greater victories before I leave this world) is dominated by Godly WOMEN, not MEN.

God has spent a lot of effort to get MEN to kneel before Him. If Christian MEN continue in their stiff-necked attitude, be sure of this: God will BREAK their necks, just as He did the Israelites. ]
