Is the Everything Getting Worse and Worse?

I did a Google™ search for the phrases "things are not getting better" and "last days." The number one webpage listed is in the left-hand column, and my response is in the right-hand column. I'm not claiming that the essay on the left is scholarly; it is not. It is simply the number one web page that came up under my search. It represents a commonly-held viewpoint.

If you have a link to an essay that you feel is more scholarly, email it to me and I will dissect it.

FALLING AWAY

By Alan Yusko
We are living in the days just before the return of the Lord Jesus where He will come to rapture home His Church to heaven. When this occurs the restraining influence of the Spirit filled Church will be removed and the devil will be free to bring to power his antichrist. These days will not be marked by great revival and spiritual awakening. Instead apostasy and a falling away from sound Biblical doctrine will be on a world-wide level. Many Christians have been making this claim for over 100 years. Have they forgotten the Biblical penalties for making false prophecies?
Deuteronomy 18
20But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. 21And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? 22When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
Many who profess to be Christians will simply fall away. The tares will come to bloom and their 'taredome' and love of sin and evil will be plain for all to see. Today this can be seen in the churches that have given themselves over to sin, rebellion and apostasy. According to the older dispensationalist teachers, the "prophecy clock" stopped ticking, and will not resume ticking until the Rapture. Nothing in our day can be a fulfillment of prophecy, according to the older dispensationalism. This doctrine has been abandoned by younger dispensationalists, eager to make their writings more "relevant."
Rock and roll reins in such churches. Along with rock there is great ecumenism and a uniting with false religions from Romanism, to Mormons, to Muslims all in the name of love, unity, and brotherhood.
Other churches follow the great TV evangelists who are nothing more than doctrine rejecting apostate wolves. However, they attract a large and loyal following. Many will blindly follow a false teaching TV evangelist and reject with anger any Biblical warnings and corrections. These false preachers attract people who are experience driven. If it feels good then it must be from God. The whole charismatic movement is based on feeling good and not on sound Biblical doctrine. Many have forsaken sound Biblical doctrine and have accepted experience driven religious experiences.
Doctrine is being attacked in these last days. Tares, wolves, and deceivers want nothing with sound Biblical doctrine. These men expect their blind followers to listen to their teachings blindly and without testing. They accuse those who put the false teachings to the test of the Scriptures as being unloving and "touching God's anointed". Actually these men are not God's anointed but rather they are Satan's anointed! The poor deceived followers are told not to pray or test from the Bible. To do so would inhibit God's anointing. That is a lie from the devil! Yet many believe and put their faith in the wolves and false teachers.
Lost men, tares, and deceivers want nothing to do with sound Biblical doctrine. Most do not want to hear "thus saith the Lord". People want to live their lives of sin and darkness without any intervention from God and His Word. People are rejecting the things of God while accepting the things of the devil. The concept of obedience and separation from sin and deceivers is foreign to the experience driven person.
I still hear from the occasional blind person who thinks there will not be widespread apostasy in the last days. All I can say is wake up and look around! It is plain to see. God has given many warnings about the last days apostasy in the Scriptures. The Bereans did not "look around," they "searched the Scriptures."
2 Thess 2
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
This verse applied to the "last days" of the Old Covenant, but not to our day.

(1 John 2:18) Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
(1 John 4:3) And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
(2 John 1:7) For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

David Chilton writes:

The connection people often make between the Antichrist and “the last days” is correct enough; but what is often missed is the fact that the expression the last days, and similar terms, are used in the Bible to refer, not to the end of the physical world, but to the last days of the nation of Israel, the “last days” which ended with the destruction of the Temple in A.D. 70. This, too, will come to many as a surprise; but we must accept the clear teaching of Scripture. The New Testament authors unquestionably used “end-times” language when speaking of the period they were living in, before the fall of Jerusalem. As we have seen, the Apostle John said two things on this point: first, that Antichrist had already come and, second, that the presence of the Antichrist was proof that he and his readers were living in "the last hour.” In one of his earlier letters, St. Paul had had to correct a mistaken impression regarding the coming judgment on Israel. False teachers had been frightening the believers by saying that the day of judgment was already upon them. St. Paul reminded the Christians of what he had explained before:

Let no one deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first . . . .
(2 Thessalonians 2:3).

By the end of the age, however, as John was writing his letters, the Great Apostasy — the spirit of Antichrist, of which the Lord had foretold — was a reality.

The Great Apostasy

The Church began to be infiltrated by heresy fairly early in its development. Acts 15 records the meeting of the first Church Council, which was convened in order to render an authoritative ruling on the issue of justification by faith (some teachers had been advocating the false doctrine that one must keep the ceremonial laws of the Old Testament in order to be justified). The problem did not die down, however; years later, the apostle Paul had to deal with it again, in his letter to the churches of Galatia. As St. Paul told them, this doctrinal aberration was no minor matter, but affected their very salvation: it was a “different gospel,” an utter distortion of the truth, and amounted to a repudiation of Jesus Christ Himself. Using some of the most severe terminology of his career, Paul pronounced damnation upon the “false brethren” who taught the heresy (see Galatians 1:6-9; 2:5, 11-21; 3:1-3; 5:1-12).

St. Paul also foresaw that heresy would infect the churches of Asia Minor. Calling together the elders of Ephesus, he exhorted them to “be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock,” because “I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them” (Acts 20:28-30). Just as St. Paul predicted, false doctrine became an issue of enormous proportions in these churches. By the time the Book of Revelation was written, some of them had become almost completely ruined through the progress of heretical teachings and the resulting apostasy (Revelation 2:2,6, 14-16, 20-24; 3:1-4, 15-18).

But the problem of heresy was not limited to any geographical or cultural area. It was widespread and became an increasing subject of apostolic counsel and pastoral oversight as the age progressed. Some heretics taught that the final Resurrection had already taken place (2 Timothy 2:18), while others claimed that resurrection was impossible (1 Corinthians 15:12); some taught strange doctrines of asceticism and angel-worship (Colossians 2:8, 18-23; 1 Timothy 4:1-3), while others advocated all kinds of immorality and rebellion in the name of “liberty” (2 Peter 2:1-3, 10-22; Jude 4, 8, 10-13, 16). Again and again the apostles found themselves issuing stern warnings against tolerating false teachers and “false apostles” (Romans 16:17-18; 2 Corinthians 11:3-4, 12-15; Philippians 3:18-19; 1 Timothy 1:3-7; 2 Timothy 4:2-5), for these had been the cause of massive departures from the faith, and the extent of apostasy was increasing as the era progressed (1 Timothy 1:19-20; 6:20-21; 2 Timothy 2:16-18; 3:1-9, 13; 4:10, 14-16). One of the last letters of the New Testament, the Book of Hebrews, was written to an entire Christian community on the very brink of wholesale abandonment of Christianity. The Christian Church of the first generation was not only characterized by faith and miracles; it was also characterized by increasing lawlessness, rebellion, and heresy from within the Christian community itself — just as Jesus had foretold in Matthew 24.

Above we can see that the Bible warns of a falling away and that this will occur before the rise of the antichrist. We are in those days right now! When the antichrist arises to power after the rapture the trend to apostasy will not begin. Instead it will be in its last stages and the world will be ripe for the devil's man. Right now apostasy can be easily seen through the world. Many Godless men dare to call themselves pastors and lead liberal and apostate churches. These men deny foundational Bible doctrines like the Trinity, salvation by faith apart from works, and the fact that the Lord Jesus is the only way to be saved. They accept sins and works of the devil. The word SIN and HELL is out as they fell it is too negative and will hurt people's self-esteem. Sodomy is acceptable as is many other forms of sin and doctrinal compromise. We are not in "the last days" of the Old Covenant.

We are, actually, in the first days of the New Covenant.

Many Godless men dare to call themselves pastors and lead pentecostal and fundamentalist churches, too. They deny that human beings are to exercise dominion over the earth. They are unfamiliar with the implications of God's commandments, such as the Sixth and the Eighth Commandment. They couldn't show you in the Bible where inflation and currency debasement are prohibited. They say and do nothing about the millions of people trapped in socialism and communism.

The fact is that we in the first days of the New Covenant all have much to learn about applying Biblical Principles.

Some of the last days apostate churches even dare to debate whether or not to accept sodomite pastors. When a church reaches that stage they are already apostate. You see the homosexual pervert is an abomination to God and the whole issue is really a no-brainer. That type of perversion should never even be considered as acceptable. To even consider the abomination of sodomy shows the depth of apostasy already in place! But these things are expected in the last days!
LAST DAYS APOSTASY
1 Tim 4
1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

Was St. Paul talking about "latter times” which would happen thousands of years later? Why should he warn Timothy of events which Timothy, and Timothy's great-great-grandchildren, and fifty or more generations of descendants, would never live to see? In fact, St. Paul tells Timothy, “If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ” (1 Timothy 4:6). The members of Timothy’s congregation needed to know about what would take place in the “latter days,” because they would be personally affected by those events. In particular, they needed the assurance that the coming apostasy was part of the overall pattern of events leading up to the end of the old order and the full establishing of Christ’s Kingdom. As we can see from passages such as Colossians 2:18-23, the “doctrines of demons” St. Paul warned of were current during the first century. The “latter times” were already taking place. This is quite clear in St. Paul’s later statement to Timothy:

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come; for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so also do those resist the truth; men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith (2 Timothy 3:1-8).

In these last days some will depart from the faith. Do you think the word 'some' is verse 1 above means just a few here and there? I would encourage you to simply look around for the correct answer. How many "Christian" churches have given themselves over to Satan's rock and roll music? Today the young people proudly listen to the latest secular rock and roll with no conscience about it. It is vogue in the young people groups to attend all the latest rock and roll concerts. How many other churches are uniting with the false religion of Romanism? Even so called great leaders like Billy Graham have led many astray. At each of his "do's - or shows" he always has heavy contemporary rock and roll groups. Plus on the stage he will sit with prominent catholic priests and such. Folks, this is not right and this trend is typical throughout the world. Compromise is "in" while obedience and Biblical separation is considered narrow-minded and unloving.

The very things St. Paul said would happen in "the last days” were happening as he wrote, and he was simply warning Timothy about what to expect as tie age rushed on to its climax. Antichrist was beginning to rear its head.

Other New Testament writers shared this perspective with St. Paul. The letter to the Hebrews begins by saying that God “has in these last days spoken to us in His Son” (Hebrews 1:2); the writer goes on to show that “now once at the end of the ages He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself” (Hebrews 9:26). St. Peter wrote fiat Christ “was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for you who through Him are believers in God” (1 Peter 1:20-21). Apostolic testimony is unmistakably clear: when Christ came, the “last days” arrived with Him. He came to bring in the new age of the Kingdom of God. The old age was winding down, and would be thoroughly abolished when God destroyed the Temple.

Will deceptions be few or many in the last days? I would say they would be widespread and there are several warnings in Scriptures to that effect! But all of these warnings were clearly addressed to people living in the last days of the Old Covenant, not to those of us living 2,000 years after the end of that age.
MANY FALSE TEACHERS IN THE LAST DAYS!
Matt 24
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Many false prophets did arise.

I John 4:1
"..many false prophets are gone out into the world."

Acts 8:9-10
"But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
"To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God."

Acts 5:36
"For before these days (12 years after the death of Christ) rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought."

Acts 21:38
"Art not thou that Egyptian, which before these days madest an uproar, and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers?"

Acts 5:37
"After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed."

Matt 24
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Deception and compromise will be widespread in the last days before the return of the Lord Jesus. Satan will have his wolves everywhere. The world will literally be led astray. Sound Biblical doctrine will be rejected! When the antichrist comes to power after the rapture, the great apostasy and rejection of things of God will be the norm.
2 Pet 2
1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
Dr. Thomas Newton (1753)
(On Matthew 24:4-5)
"False Christs our Saviour mentions as the first sign of his coming, ver. 4 and 5 ,-- 'Take heed that no man deceive you, for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.' With this he begins in all the evangelists, and in all useth almost the very same words; only in St. Luke, xxi. 8, he addeth 'the time draweth near;' and indeed within a little time this part of the prophecy began to be fulfilled. For very soon after our Saviour's decease appeared Simon Magus, Acts viii. 9, 10,-- ' and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying This man is the great power of God! He boasted himself likewise among the Jews, as the Son of God. Of the same stamp and character was also Dositheus the Samaritan, who pretended that he was the Christ foretold by Moses. In the reign of Claudius, about twelve years after the death of our Saviour, when Cuspius Fadus was procurator of Judea, a certain impostor, named Theudas, persuaded a great mu1titude with their beat effects to follow him to the river Jordan; for he said that he was a prophet, and promised to divide the river for their passage, and "saying these things he deceived many," saith Josephus. But Fadus sent a troop of horse against them, who falling unexpectedly upon them, killed many, and made many prisoners; and having taken Theudas himself alive, they cut off his head, and brought it to Jerusalem. A few years afterwards, in the reign of Nero, and under the procuratorship of Felix, these impostors arose so frequent, that "many of them were apprehended and killed every day." They seduced great numbers of the people still expecting the Messiah; and well therefore might our Saviour caution his disciples against them." (The Prophecy of Matthew 24, Dissertation XVIII)

Peter was talking to his readers about the same danger Christ foretold in Matthew 24.

Above we are warned that there will be dangerous doctrine denying false prophets/teachers who will lead astray many! Here is a point to consider. A person who loves the Lord and reads and obeys His Bible will not be led astray. The Word of God is a shield against the fiery darts of the devil. However, in the last days many will be led astray. I'll come right out and say what I've observed. Not many in these last days read their Bibles on a regular (daily) basis. People are willing to eat physical food on a daily basis but they neglect the spiritual food only found in the Word of God! Why is this so? Do people want to learn from God's Word the Bible? Perhaps it is a heart and love problem toward God? I encourage everyone who claims to be a Christian to be sure to read God's Word each and every day!
What about the last day wolves? What does the Bible say about them? It is interesting to note that they will get more vile and deceptive. See the discussion of this verse and others above.

The fact is that liberal churches are not waxing worse and worse. Their enrollment is declining every year, and Bible believing churches are increasing their attendance every year.

2 Tim 3
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
These wolves of Satan will get more bold and brash as we approach the return of the Lord Jesus. Just as they deceive and lead others astray, the devil has deceived and led them astray! It is literally a situation where the blind and lost are leading the blind and lost. Both will die, perish, and burn in the lake of fire for all eternity! These wolves existed in Timothy's day, and Paul told Timothy, "from such turn away (vv. 5-7). They were leading believers away in the last days of the Old Covenant. Paul was not speaking about wolves that might exist 2,000 years in the future.
One characteristic of the devil's wolves is that they look and sound like a Christian. A wolf rarely looks like a wolf! They are just like their daddy, the devil. Satan does not present himself as a horrible looking beast! Instead he appears as an angel of light. He looks good and sounds good as he seeks to lead as many to hell as possible.
2 Cor 11
13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Read this passage in context. Paul is talking about people who were alive in his day, not those who might be alive in our day, 2,000 years later.
These men are deceitful workers of the devil who have transformed themselves to look like followers of the Lord Jesus. Just as the devil dresses up sin and evil to look good, so likewise do these ministers of the devil.
Personally I'm not too worried about the last days deceivers. God has pronounced a Divine curse on such men: I'm not too worried either. What happened during the last days of the Old Testament is not a threat to me.
Gal 1
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
This is a warning to the Galatians about Judaizers who existed in the last days of the Old Covenant. See the discussion about the church at Galatia above.
All the wolves and deceivers that lead people astray and who deny the foundational doctrines of Christianity are accursed! It is not a light thing to lead people away from God. Remember God is a loving and a jealous God. He loves His people and will certainly judge false shepherds who attempt to damage and lead astray His people. These comments are all well and good, but do not prove that these wolves and false prophets were foretold to be alive 2,000 years after Paul wrote his letters.
We live in a day where abominable, sinful, evil, wolves, and deceivers profess to be Christians. These men and women rise to the position of leadership (pastors, associate pastors, youth pastor, music minister) and begin to spread their heresy and deception to all willing to listen. True enough, but these liberals were not in Paul's mind when he wrote; Paul was dealing with threats that existed in the last days of the Old Covenant.
Jude 1
4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
"There ARE." Back then.
Jude 1
11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;
13 Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.
(Jude 1:17-18) But you, beloved, must remember the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; {18} for they said to you, "In the last time there will be scoffers, indulging their own ungodly lusts."

This happened back then. These were warnings to people who lived in the last days of the Old Covenant. They are not warning to us (though we can gain insights from them) because we do not live in the last days of the Old Covenant. We live in the first days of the New Covenant.

Satan and his people have 'crept' into many churches. These people are accursed ones and children of the devil. Test them as they will fail under the Word of God. These men and women are to be rejected and avoided! If you attend such a church, get out! {6} For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, {5}Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
(2 Timothy 3:5-6)

Paul's warnings were not prophecies of events thousands of years away.

TOLERATING EVIL
There is another problem. It deals with the person who tolerates a liberal and compromising church. Why would a person stay in such an environment? Why would a person claim to be a Christian and stay in such an evil environment? Does that person love the Lord? Is that person saved? This can be seen by the Godly fruit of the Holy Spirit in His life. A truly saved person will love the Lord and seek to please Him in thought, word, and deed. To the saved, sin is not loved and embraced. It is something to renounce and reject. A saved person loves the Word of God and he reads it daily and seeks to grow in Christ. Soul searching is needed. If you are attending a liberal, compromising church, then get out! Find a good Bible believing church that loves the Lord and is a place for Christians to grow and mature. Good advice, but it has nothing to do with prophecies about something that might happen 2,000 years after the end of the Old Covenant.
Yet others who have played the game of Christianity are falling away! They have no heart for sound Biblical doctrine. Here is what the Bible says:
2 Tim 4
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Read the whole chapter. Paul is giving a warning to Timothy about circumstances he would face in his lifetime. Paul is not talking about things that would happen 2,000 years in the future.
Many simply do not have a heart for sound Biblical doctrine. They react with anger and fury when their wolf and deceiver is called to account by the Word of God. These people attend a ecumenical, rock and roll type of Church on Sunday. They are tares who do not know the Lord. As the days pass these people will get further from God and closer to the devil! You see as we live our lives day by day we are either walking closer to God or closer to the devil! Which direction is your life going, reader? Are you getting closer to the Lord each day or are you becoming close with the devil?
I have seen many so-called Christians who love the things of the devil and who reject the things of God. Yet to tell them to their face that they were lost would result in an explosion in anger! These lost hypocrites have hell to look forward to in the days ahead! All this enthusiastic advice may be good, but it has nothing to do with interpreting Biblical prophecy.
Each day that goes by brings us closer to the return of the Lord Jesus to rapture home His Church to heaven. Be warned that the days we live in will be increasingly dangerous and evil. Now matter how enthusiastic or passionate our expositor may be about liberal churches, he has not proved his eschatology from Scripture.
2 Tim 3
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

The above verses are very descriptive of these last days! We are now living in perilous times. Things are not getting better, instead they are getting worse! Remember I mentioned that people will either get closer to God or closer to the devil in these last days. For those who are getting closer to the devil, look at the above list of demonic fruit that goes along with a relationship with Satan. In that list are the wolves and deceivers (v 5) who have a form of godliness (they look like Christians) yet they are not. These men are evil and we are commanded to turn away from and avoid such men. No, they are descriptive of the last days of the Old Covenant, in Paul and Timothy's day.
Isn't that harsh instructions? In the above verses in verse 5, God's people are commanded to turn away from evil deceivers and wolves! Ohhhh that is so narrow and unloving, the compromiser tare would say. However, it is a warning to God's people. Reject and turn away from false teachers and deceivers. Do not fellowship or support in any way such men or women. These people are accursed and will be judged by God. For your protection, get away from such deceivers! If you attend a church where such a man is the pastor.... get out! Don't think about it... just do it! Turn away and reject such a person!
Another point I want to make is related to verse 7 above. In these last days the tares are always trying to learn but they never come to the knowledge of the truth. Yes they have their little alpha courses and other compromising agendas. There seems to be no end to the compromising little projects. There was the "WHY" program, the alpha course, the prayer of Jabez and many other feel good but doctrine rejecting programs. Yet, as the tares may enjoy learning, they will never reach the truth. The simple reason is these people have no heart for sound Biblical doctrine. It is impossible to reach the truth when the foundations of sound Biblical doctrine are rejected. It ultimately is a love problem. The experience driven tare does not love the Lord. If a person truly loved the Lord then they would seek to please and obey Him. The tares have no interest in such things. All this passionate exhortation about compromise and sound doctrine does not change the fact that we are not in the last days of the Old Covenant as the Apostles and their readers were.
FAMINE IS IN THE LAND!
I want to close this tract with a reminder that we are living in days of a famine in the land. Yes the Bible can be found and read easily. Even people in countries closed to the Gospel can still get at the Scriptures if they have internet access. However there is still a famine in the land. Many people are simply not interested in the Scriptures and the things of God. It is much easier to turn off the old brain and follow some wolf or deceiver. People do not love the Lord and they do not want to draw near Him to learn His ways and obey Him.
Amos 8
11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:
12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.
The day Amos described was also a day in which

it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:
(Amos 8:9)

Is the point here one about astronomy?

We are living in days of famine. I have heard from hurt Christians who do not have a good Bible based church near their home to attend. This is a very sad reality of the last days as many churches have fallen away and many professing Christians do not care. Do we need churches?
I would encourage everyone reading this to be sure you read God's word each and every day. Beware of false teaching and test all things against the Word of God. Do not accept or tolerate wolves in your midst. Once they have been exposed by the Word of God, reject and avoid them! Seek out and find a good, solid Bible believing Church.
