Fiat Law

In the beginning of the Latin translation of the Bible we read these words:

"Fiat lux"

"Let there be light."

God is sovereign. Whatever God wants, God gets. He speaks His desires into existence.

In our day God is forgotten. The government thinks it is god.

"Stroke of the pen
  law of the land
  kinda cool"
said former Clinton advisor Paul Begala.

Or as John Lehman put it,

"Power corrupts. Absolute power is kind of neat."

When law is arbitrary, and when the State can create any laws it wants without reference to "the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God," then law becomes contradictory and meaningless, and the people lose respect for the law.  In his book Sovereignty, R.J. Rushdoony (1916-2001) recalls that in 1928 it was illegal to possess a bottle of whiskey but legal to have a bar of gold, but just a few years later it was illegal to possess a bar of gold but legal to possess a bottle of whiskey. Citizens who trust a government committed to "fiat law" become confused and easily controlled.
