Kevin, very well said !! I read your entire web-page.
I too have struggled with America's rebellion against Britain. Though, I am
a Christian libertarian, I have respect for what your bible passages teach
about obeying authority.
However, if you will hear my objection to your thesis, here it is.....
When I read passages such as: "vengance is mine, etc." I am only reminded
that God's law can not be brought to the Godless sucessfully.
We (christians) are put on this earth as witnesses, not law enforcement
officers. My long, thought-out view, as a libertarian, has always been that
governments (especially strong federal ones) are the single greatest threat
to Christianity. If I may Quote my fiercest spiritual enemy, Karl Marx:
"Organized religion is the single greatest threat to society" --in a letter
to his wife-- (see N.Y's public library web-site under: Bios.)
Kevin, though I respect your thesis more than I might be able to convince you
of, I think the declaration of independence was a far greater step forward
for the God-fearing man; rather than backward.
The freedoms outlined in our constitution (crippled as they might be today)
did more to ensure freedom to organize and worship than the british ever
would have stood for.
I have always believed that established goverments tend toward Godlessness
and destruction. This is why I believe America's rebellion "bought" us a few
more centuries of freedom than a monarchy such as Great Britain's would have.
I think Christians are only safe when their goverment is weak and freedom
reigns. Though I admit God is in total control; I truly believe God
punishes us for who we vote for. You'll always find that the power-hungry
despots (such as the King of Britain) are the ones that would have churches
burned with their members inside.
I hope you respect my point as much as I did yours; it would only flatter me.
In Christ,
Greg.

Well Kevin, I would agree our Nation is heading in the wrong direction, but
July 4th is the birth of our Nation AS a Nation. I beleive the more "deeply
rooted" things that trouble our Nation began to creep in shortly thereafter.
This day I will enjoy celebrating immensly as a Freedom Loving Human Being, I
will take pride in it as a Patriotic American/Veteran and I will thank God
for it as a Consecrated Tridentine Roman Catholic. The usual days I have a
problem with are May 1st, June 26th, November 7th and December 7th.

Kevin,
I like and appreciate your zeal for the things of the LORD.
All Christians OUGHT to.
From a separate e-mail address, I will send you my short
8 page manuscript on Romans 13:1-7.
I am certain you will enjoy it.
Although I may be Calvinistic, I will not use the title
as a designation.
I am, after all and above all else, Christian. How many people
do you turn away from within the Christian community with the
title of Christian? My background is Baptist, because I was raised
in a home with my Dad, who is to this day a Baptist minister.
But, I became a Christian in 1982, after reading sermons, in book
form, by Francis Schaeffer. (A Christian Manifesto, and
Esacape From Reason).
I have since then read other books by him.
You are, by your actions, an Opinion Leader.
I supported Patrick J Buchanan for President, and became
friends with him, getting to know to him somewhat, one on one.
(I was with him in San Diego last August, during the time of the
RNC).

How beautifully gracious brother Kevin. You even returned to British
spelling for honour though you did not make it to neighbourhood.
I join you in mourning on the 4th of July. But I guess our reasons
differ. I mourn the loss of such promising colonies.;-))
It is especially fitting to mourn in the week when the sun finally set
in Hong Kong on the empire upon which the sun never used to set.
