God reveals Himself through His names. The more we understand His names and relate them to the needs and fears of our lives, the more we will enjoy God.

1. Jehovah - jireh I am God who provides a substitute for your salvation. (See Genesis 22:14.)
2. Jehovah - rophe I am God who heals you. (See Exodus 15:26.)
3. Jehovah - nissi I am God who leads to victory over immorality. (See Exodus 17:15.)
4. Jehovah - M'Kaddesh I am God who sanctifies you. (See Leviticus 20:7-8.)
5. Jehovah - shalom I am God who gives you peace. (See Judges 6:24.)
6. Jehovah - tsidkenu I am God who teaches you justice. (See Jeremiah 23:5-6.)
7. Jehovah - rohi I am God who cares for your daily needs. (See Psalm 23:1.)

APPLICATION
1. Jehovah-jireh (je-ho'-vah yeer'-he)
Literal: God who provides.
Context: Genesis 22:1-14
God commanded Abraham to offer up his son, Isaac, as a burnt offering. Abraham and Isaac traveled for three days to get to the place that God had selected. Abraham built an altar and placed his son on it. As Abraham lifted his knife to slay his son, God stopped Abraham and instead provided a substitute-a ram caught in a thicket. "And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day..." (Genesis 22:14).

2. Jehovah - rophe (je-ho'-vah ro'-phay)
Literal: God who heals
Context: Exodus 15:22-27
God had just led the nation of Israel out of the bondage of Egypt and through the Red Sea. After three days in the wilderness, they found no water; so they began to murmur. The Israelites then came to the waters of Marah, but they could not drink them because they were bitter. The Lord instructed Moses to cast a certain tree into the waters. When he did, they became sweet. Then God said, ". . . If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, . . . I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee" (Exodus 15:26).

3. Jehovah - nissi (je-ho'-vah nis-see)
Literal: The Lord is my banner
Context: Exodus 17
The nation of Israel continued to murmur against the Lord in the wilderness. Then the nation of Amalek came out to fight against them. The Amalekites were immoral and evil people. They are representative of immorality. God declared perpetual war against them. While Israel fought against Amalek, Moses went up to the hilL Whenever he held up his hands, Israel prevailed. When he let his hands down, Amalek prevailed. Aaron and Hur held up Moses' hands and Israel defeated the Amalekites. "And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi" (Exodus 17:15).
I am aware that I am in a perpetual battle against the lusts of the flesh.  Yes  No

4. Jehovah-M'Kaddesh (Je-ho'vah m'-kad'-desh)
Literal: I am the Lord which sanctiftes you.
Context: Leviticus 20:7-8
God brought the nation of Israel to Mount Sinai. Moses went into the mountain and received the Ten Commandments from the hand of God. Then God instructed Moses to explain His laws and statutes to the entire nation of Israel Within that instruction is the command, "Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the Lord, your God, and ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the Lord which sanctiiy you" (Leviticus 20:7-8).
 I realize that God requires one to be holy. (See I Peter 1:16.)

 I also realize that it is not humanly possible for me to be perfect.

 As a Christian, I am a part of Christ's spiritual body. This means that, as a part of Christ, I fufilled all of the law's demands, and now He is living in me to do His will

5. Jehovah-shalom (Je-ho'-vah shal-lom')
Literal: The Lord send peace
Context: Judges 6:1-24
The nation of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord and the Lord delivered them into the hand of the nation of Midian for seven years. During harvest time, the Midianites came against Israel to steal all their crops. An angel of God appeared to Gideon and called him to deliver Israel from the oppression of the Midianites. When Gideon realized that he had seen an angel of the Lord, he was fearful "And the Lord said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not; thou shalt not die. Then Gideon built an altar there unto the Lord, and called it Jehovah-shalom..."
(Judges 6:23-24).
The chastening of God is upon Christians today in the following ways:

6. Jehovah-tsidkenu (Je-ho'-vah tsidday'-noo)
Literal: TheLord ourRighteousness
Context: Jeremiah 23:1-6
The nation of Israel continued to rebel against the Lord and seek after other gods. God raised up prophets of His coming judgment. Jeremiah predicted that God would scatter the nation of Israel into all the corners of the earth, and then God would raise up a king from the line of David. In the last days He would gather the remnants of Israel and bring them back to their own lands. God's king would then execute judgment and justice in the earth. "In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS" (Jeremiah 23:6).
 I realize that any law system that violates God's just standards will bring judgment to the nations and individuals who follow them.

 I purpose to delight myself in the law of the Lord so that I can seek His kingdom and His righteousness justice) first. (See Matthew 6:33.)

7. Jehovah-rohi (je-ho'-vah ro'- ee)
Literal: The Lord my shepherd
Context: Psalm 23:1; II Samuel 13-37

When Absolom rebelled against his father, David had to leave his home and city. David and his faithful followers fled over the Brook Kidron, up the Mount of Olives, into the plains of the wilderness of Judah, and finally over the Jordan River. It was during this time of rejection, disgrace, public humiliation, lack of provisions, and an uncertain future that David wrote the twenty-third Psalm. The calamity of his circumstances adds majesty and meaning to the picture of God as our shepherd.

 I have purposed to accept my present circumstances as an opportunity for God to be my shepherd.

 My concern will not be for my reputation, but "for His name's sake."

 I will rejoice in God's chastening as an evidence of His love and presence.

 I will trust God to provide my daily needs.

8. Jehovah - shamma (Je-ho-vah sham' -mah)
Literal: The Lord is there
Context: Exekiel 48:35
 

During the time and ministry of Exekiel, God revealed the future restoration of Israel. In one of his visions, Ezekiel described the city of Jehovah. In that coming day when God sets up His Kingdom and He Himself dwells in Jerusalem, the new ~ name of the city from that day shall be, The Lord is there" (Ezekiel 48:35).

 I realize that loneliness results when I try to arrange circumstances around my goals rather chan for God's glory.

 When times of discouragement and disappointment come, I will remember that I am an important part of a much larger program and that my trials are not worthy to be compared to the future glory that God will give.
