Thank you for your cogent, and constructive, response.  I would answer in more detail but I am rushing to complete a project before flying off to New York in the morning for a meeting with some people of questionable moral standing.  I do want you to know, however, that I genuinely appreciate both the tone and character or your response, though not unexpectedly there are aspects of your response that I would love to discuss.  I'm still learning.  J.

I want to thank you for your website since it's help me to understand that I am a secular humanist.  I just thought that I was a simple person trying to lead a constructive life.  You have given it a name.  Thanks.

I love sarcasm.

You write of Pax Christi and yet it's the first American President in my lifetime to have been elected by the overwhelming support of "Christians" who is now determined to repeat the death and devastation wrought by the Christian Crusades of the 12th century.

A lot of people call themselves "Christians."
Judas Iscariot may have called himself a Christian.
"Ye shall know them by their fruits."  Matthew 7:16-20
I urged Christians not to vote for Bush:

On the other hand, Christians have worked to turn back
the genocidal crusades of Secular Humanists. The Christian
crusades killed thousands; secular crusades have killed
hundreds of millions.

In the last century, however, Christians have become
escapist and irrelevant, and secular crusades have multiplied.

Christianity brought us the concept of heresy to replace the Christ-taught doctrine of tolerance.

Christ never taught "tolerance."

I suppose that it was the ruthlessness of Constantine who gave Christians the power of the Roman Empire to snuff out the lives of those who did not bow before Imperial Christianity.

I am no fan of Constantine or Imperialism.
I am an anarcho-pacifist.

I consider myself a Christian but I have found that those people who say, "I'm a Christian" with that special emphasis, would not consider me a Christian.

Ditto for me.

You can't be a Christian if you're a Secular (denies God)
Humanist (worships man).

I do not worship the Bible; I seek to follow the life of Christ.

I worship the Bible:

All that you know about Christ you know through the Bible
which was written by those whom Christ appointed to
write (John 14:26; 15:26-27; 16:13).

Christ was unique is not leaving us a book but in leaving us only a life to follow.  Only Siddhartha followed a similar way of teaching.

There's nothing to follow but what's in the Book.

So, while everything on your website sounds convincing and appealing, the acts of the American Christians show us differently.

A logical fallacy: "Ad hominem."
What "American Christians" do does not disprove the Bible.

Bible-centered Christianity, now ensconced in the White House, is a religion that demeans others and that would war against nations that do not bow before the American/Christian premise of military supremacy.

There is no connection between American militarism
and Bible-centered Christianity.

I doubt that there is any Bible-centered Christianity
ensconced in the White House.

Thanks for writing. Hope to hear from you again.
